MILAN (AP) — Marie-Philip Poulin of Canada broke the Olympic record for goals in women's hockey, scoring twice in a semifinal against Switzerland at the Milan Cortina Games on Monday to reach 20 for her career.

There are two distinct kinds of happy Olympians in the moments after an event: those who are happy they medaled, and those who are happy to be there. The medalists go home with hardware and fame; the others take satisfaction in the fact they’ve accomplished their dreams.

Marie-Philip Poulin dove, extending her stick and her arms as if she were a superhero swooping in at the final moment. There was no hesitation, she clipped the puck, forcing it over Switzerland’s goalie’s shoulder — it was Canada’s winner.

The Winter Olympics implemented a change to its curling monitoring system after Canada, the top nation in the sport, became engulfed in accusations of cheating. Both Canada’s men’s and women’s teams have been accused of the same infraction: double-touching the curling stone after releasing it down the sheet of ice.
